The new processor has a Film Detection mode for identifying movie content, and boosts its HDR support with the inclusion of the HDR10+ Adaptive format, optimising brightness levels of HDR10+ content in sync with room levels so the viewer can catch more detail and see the impact of HDR at its best.It’s powered by the same Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor as the other C2 models, which keeps the UI running smoothly and offers a wealth of features including AI upscaling and support for Dolby Vision IQ. That said, there's no reason to be majorly alarmed: while Google TV is an improvement over Android TV in terms of usability, its feature set is more or less the same. What's more, it essentially goes on top of Android TV 10, so there's no reason that Philips couldn't make it available as a software update if its TVs don't launch with it pre-installed. Philips 2021 TV range breakdown The big design difference between it and its siblings is that it has two blade-like feet that take up less desk space rather than a pedestal. The positive is that these are easy to move around and take up less space; the downside is that we found there’s less room to place a soundbar under it. The Philips OLED807 certainly has a lot of competition this year - but we’d say it has more than enough unique qualities to stand out from the crowd.

Alternatively, you might have a specific size of TV in mind and an appetite for the best picture quality available. In that case, you need to prioritise performance and, if desired, next-gen features (more on which below). The second half means looking at the screen in profile. Philips OLEDs are not alone in being almost supernaturally slim until you reach the point where they keep all their electronic essentials, when they swell to much less glamorous depths. And there's Ambilight. This unique-to-Philips technology spreads light that matches what's on-screen across the walls, making the TV feel even bigger, and helping with eye comfort and atmosphere. We'll talk more about it later, but it really is a compelling addition. However, please note that the 48-inch OLED807 won't be able to match the same highs as this, because the panel can't get as bright at this size (it's the same for all 48-inch OLEDs) – this brightness applies to the 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch models.The burn-in tech helps to detect logos or static content and reduce the intensity of light in those areas, "without compromising the output of other parts of the screen". There’s a mic on the remote for use with Google Assistant, and it proves straightforward and responsive to control the OLED806 this way. Although Google Assistant herself seems reluctant to lower its voice even when you’ve asked it to reduce the volume of the TV considerably. Picture quality The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area. There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. Philips has not officially announced the OLED706, which gives us the impression it’s due later in the year and likely the re-introduction of its cheaper OLED model (like the OLED754). Its specification is a near match for the OLED806, from its P5 AI processor down to its 50W 2.1 sound system. The biggest differences we can tell are the three-sided Ambilight and a less premium remote. Philips also supports the HGiG system that lets you use set up menus built into your console to establish the best gaming HDR experience, rather than the TV trying to figure out on the fly how best to handle incoming HDR game graphics. In other respects, it’s clear why this is at the bottom. There’s no Android TV, replaced by the Saphi interface. That means no built-in Chromecast, Google Assistant, or the Google Play Store, but the set will support major SVOD apps in Netflix and Disney+. There’s no Ambilight, and the number of HDMI inputs drops to three. Advancements over the 2020 OLED+935 include HDMI 2.1 capability that makes this OLED better suited for gaming, while the OS is Android TV 10 (no confirmation as to whether Google TV is coming yet). It makes you work harder to get the best out of it than it should, but the effort is more than worth it. There’s not a better TV available at its price.We could spend a good few thousand words next on the myriad picture adjustments provided within Philips convoluted menu system. It really does feel like Philips has given you control over, well, everything. For the sake of everyone’s sanity, though, we’ll limit ourselves to saying that while enthusiasts may embrace and enjoy exploring the huge range of adjustments the 55OLED807 carries, it can all be a bit intimidating to more regular folk. The LG OLED77C2 is the best 77-inch TV we've tested, offering the same natural picture quality and next-gen gaming-ready feature set as its 65-inch sibling. There are no upward-firing drivers for the Dolby Atmos audio but this is still very much positioned as the best AV solution and involves the top B&W TV sound on the market. The soundbar is built more like three individual speakers. The enclosures are isolated and feature decoupled tweeters (in the case of the right and left drivers) or the trademark 'tweeter-on-top' set up for the middle. Even against other 42-inch OLEDs that have the same inherent picture traits, the C3 comes out on top. This is a bold, impactful TV that delivers images with superb solidity and dynamism, but it's also very consistent and never makes you aware of the picture processing in play. It's also an absolute doddle to get looking its best – just use Dolby Vision Cinema Home for Dolby Vision content and Filmmaker Mode for pretty much everything else and you're pretty much sorted (though do by all means tweak further to taste).
