About this deal

Carnotaurus (meaning “meat-eating bull”) is a genus of moderately large abelisaurid theropod dinosaur, discovered in 1984 by Argentinian paleontologist José Fernando Bonaparte. It is known from a single adult skeleton, mostly complete, which was unearthed on the farm Pocho Sastre located in La Colonia Formation of Chubut Province, Argentina. The only known species of Carnotaurus, called C. sastrei, is named in honor of the farm’s owner Angel Sastre. This dinosaur lived during the Maastrichtian age of the late Cretaceous period, between 72 and 69.9 million years ago. Had this been kept in the finalized version, this would marked the first time Toro had successfully killed a human, as well as being the first Carnotaurus in the film canon to do so. However, this would eventually happen in " The Last Stand", in which Toro killed a mercenary after being freed from mind-control.

In Season 4 episode 4: Rude Awakening, This is the first time that Toro is seen since the two previous seasons and mention in Season 3. He made a brief appearance in Yaz's nightmare along with a Ceratosaurus and the two deceased hybrids - The Indominus rex and Scorpios rex. Carnotaurus and Tyrannosaurus belong to two different dinosaur groups - ceratosaurs and coelurosaurs. These groups might have been evolving apart for more than 100 million years, since the Late Triassic Period. Where did Carnotaurus live? a b c Hartman, Scott (2012). Carnotaurus was a large theropod and one of the largest abelisaurs, about 7-9 meters (23-30 ft) in length, and between 1.3-2 tonnes in weight. Abelisaurids have odd features in their heads, as Carnotaurus had two large brow horns over its eyes, while its smaller relative Majungasaurus had highly bizarre looking knob on its head. The Ceratosaurus had a few horns on its head also. The theory that carnotaurus was covered in robust, crocodile-like scales was disputed in 2021 upon examination of the skin impressions showing that the larger scales would have been randomly distributed with the scales overall resembling more typical avian or lizard-like scales. Carnotaurus was a large but lightly built predator. [17] The only known individual was about 7.5–8m (24.6–26.2ft) in length, [H] [I] [19] making Carnotaurus one of the largest abelisaurids. [J] [K] [19] Ekrixinatosaurus and possibly Abelisaurus, which are highly incomplete, might have been similar or larger in size. [L] [M] [N] A 2016 study found that only Pycnonemosaurus, at 8.9m (29.2ft), was longer than Carnotaurus; it was estimated at 7.8m (25.6ft). [21] Its mass is estimated to have been 1,350kg (1.33 long tons; 1.49 short tons), [O] 1,500kg (1.5 long tons; 1.7 short tons), [P] 2,000kg (2.0 long tons; 2.2 short tons), [19] 2,100kg (2.1 long tons; 2.3 short tons), [Q] and 1,306–1,743kg (1.285–1.715 long tons; 1.440–1.921 short tons) [24] in separate studies that used different estimation methods. Carnotaurus was a highly specialized theropod, as seen especially in characteristics of the skull, the vertebrae and the forelimbs. [R] The pelvis and hind limbs, on the other hand, remained relatively conservative, resembling those of the more basal Ceratosaurus. Both the pelvis and hind limb were long and slender. The left femur (thigh bone) of the individual measures 103cm in length, but shows an average diameter of only 11cm. [S] Skull [ edit ] Skull in multiple views, with details of the skin structures inferred, and the right frontal horn Do not linger in its territory if you manage to stop it eating you. Running and hiding are your best options, and as with all large predators you are best off hiding in a tight space where it cannot reach. It is quite strong and more than willing to topple a vehicle, so sheltering in a building or crevice is a better idea. This is a determined predator, though, and you may have to hold out for quite a long time before it gives up trying to reach you. If you find yourself in the open and being chased down, there is still a possibility of survival. Carnotaurus is a speedy dinosaur and can easily outrun you, but it is terrible at cornering, so run in a zigzag pattern and make frequent sharp turns. It also has difficulty with obstacles at high speed, so use your environment to your advantage. Choose paths with fallen trees, large boulders, or artificial structures. It especially struggles going up and down stairs, which are built for human-sized feet rather than the longer strides of this dinosaur. Finally, while it is unbeatable on flat ground, recall its useless vestigial arms: Carnotaurus cannot climb one bit, so summon your inner ape and scale whatever high ground you can reach, the higher the better. Playing dead will not work because Carnotaurus habitually runs down and exhausts prey. If you drop down, it will assume you have tired out and are free for the eating. Behind the Scenes Toro exhibited an unwavering determination to hunt down the campers, persistently pursuing them until he was ultimately defeated by their use of explosives, which caused him to injure himself. When Toro first encountered the campers, it is possible that he experienced significant pain upon seeing them. This encounter likely made him realize that the campers, as a collective group, possessed the ability to defend themselves. Carnotaurus in real life may have preferred to hunt small animals owing to its small skull and inferior bite-force compared to the likes of Tyrannosaurus and other larger theropods, however it may have also preyed upon bigger animals.Carnotaurus can live in pairs, and tolerate up to twenty other dinosaurs in its enclosure of various species. Like other similarly sized carnivores, such as Albertosaurus and Baryonyx, Carnotaurus are able to hunt small and medium-sized herbivores, and engage in death duels with ceratopsians, ankylosaurids and other large carnivores. In terms of their preferred habitat, Carnotaurus prefer large areas of grassland and a small forested area in their enclosure, and eat from both the Carnivore and Live Bait Feeders. With that being said, however, the armor plating (also known as osteoderms) was not spiked, instead they were smooth and small. The vocal effects were composed by Christopher Boyes, a former colleague, and sound engineer of Gary Rydstrom. For the Carnotaurus, the sound designs were based on the roars of big cats, pigs, crocodilians, etc.
