Description

The weight limit for agricultural tractor and trailer combinations is 31 tonnes. The trailer itself is limited to 18.29 tonnes (including any load imposed on the tractor through the hitch). The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 require that any motor vehicle, used on an unrestricted dual-carriageway road, with 4 or more wheels that has a maximum speed of less than 25 mph must display at least one warning beacon on either the vehicle or its trailer. Wider tractors (falling into the special type agricultural vehicle category) have lower speed limits: An agricultural quadricycle (quad) is a light 4-wheeled vehicle intended for off-road use. It must be registered with DVLA as an agricultural vehicle and be used as a working vehicle for farming, forestry or similar purposes.

All of the legislation discussed above is relevant to road use, and this includes when travelling on PRoW (Public Rights of Way) that are classified as BOATs (Byways Open To All Traffic). Age 18 if you got your driving licence before 10 September 2009, and the weight of the vehicle and trailer together is under 7,500 kilograms have passed your driving test and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence ( CPC) initial qualification does not travel further than 1.5 kilometres on a public road when passing between two such areas and has a nil licence in force in respectYou needed to show you can keep your vehicle correctly positioned on the road, staying within the correct lane, without driving too close to the lines. Examples of faults If you or your business use agricultural vehicles, they may require a different licence and may even be exempt from vehicle tax. Vehicle driving licences are categorised by type of vehicle and also vary according to the weight of the vehicle. However, most agricultural tractors mounted on wheels can be driven on the public highway by anyone who has passed a car driving test.

If you are sure that the vehicle has been abandoned, you should report it to your local council. You should provide the council with any information you know about the vehicle, for example:

Seasonal worker considerations

A full list of the exemptions from Operator Licensing can be found in Schedule 3 of The Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Regulations 1995 (as amended).

Tractors with a vehicle excise licence - such as a general haulage vehicle - cannot use red diesel either on or off public roads, regardless of whether it is undertaking agricultural, horticultural or forestry work. This is because it is licensed to perform other work and is not therefore assumed to be used solely for agriculture, horticulture or forestry. Light agricultural vehicles If you use an agricultural quad on the public road between sunrise and sunset you are not required to fit a lamp or reflector. However, you will be required to make hand signals to indicate slowing down or change of direction. You should have driven at a speed appropriate for the road and traffic conditions, without holding up other road users. Tractors that are used solely for agriculture, horticulture or forestry (tractors eligible to be taxed in the agricultural tax class) are exempt from roadworthiness testing. If the resident has a car licence, but the country of issue does not include the tractor provision within the car licence, the resident will not be able to drive a tractor on this licence , and Category F test will need to be completed.Drivers must ensure they are aware of the rules that apply to them. The EU drivers’ hours and tachograph rules are complex and we recommend consulting the available guidance if you think that they may apply to you: For advice on licence requirements and other information on fast tractors, visit: High speed tractors vs. standard tractors – what’s the difference? Provisional licences

There are a number of different regulatory regimes that can apply to the use of tractors in Great Britain. The requirements for each of these are different and tractor operators should be aware of their legal obligations. This information sheet provides an overview of the main criteria and requirements for these regimes, particularly the different requirements when used for agriculture or other work. For more information, the regulations themselves or a knowledgeable trade association should be consulted. You needed to show you can drive through junctions safely. You should have observed your surroundings, made your intentions clear, followed road signs and signals, and properly controlled your vehicle. Examples of faults is used on public roads only when passing between different areas of land occupied by the same person Vehicles weighing between 3,500 kilograms and 7,500 kilograms, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kilograms If your child shows an interest, there's no harm in playing it over and over. Let them sit on your lap and point out the different animals and other things you see in the pictures. Talk to your child about what makes each animal different - their colours, long ears, how many legs and so on. Also notice the colour of the tractor and trailer, and how many of each animal there are - so many that they all fall out when the trailer goes over a bump in the road - oops! Use the phrase "It's a very busy day" when you are out and about with your child. An ‘agricultural trailer’ is a trailer used only for agriculture, horticulture or forestry. A trailer that is also used for other purposes can be used for agricultural purposes but would, from a regulatory perspective, not be considered an agricultural trailer. 2. Speed limits As category C1 but with a trailer weighing more than 750 kilograms. The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 12,000 kilograms. in passing between any two such areas does not travel a distance exceeding 1.5 kilometres on (public roads) Front and rear direction indicators are not required if the unladen mass of the quad is less than 255 kilograms Additional features and rules for agricultural quads This includes vehicles that have not been taxed since before the 31 January 1998, which are not required to make a SORN.
