Need to hire a car to explore Edinburgh’s beaches? Out About Scotland recommends Travel Supermarket. The two best places to eat on the promenade (in my opinion) are The Espy and The Beach House which are located next to each other. The Espy is a pub with a restaurant which serves massive portions of food while The Beach House is a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating.

Sun, sea, sand and ice cream. On a warm day in Scotland, you could be forgiven for forgetting you’re standing at Edinburgh’s seaside and not at the Costa Del Sol! Summer is well and truly here, which means it's the perfect time to get out and about while the sun is shining. This 40-mile stretch of coastline is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest seaside areas as the beaches are all within a short drive of Edinburgh yet they see few tourists, the sand is clean and powder-soft, and the many secluded bays offer protection from the stiff breezes that blow in off the Firth of Forth.Prestonpans is a historic former mining village that is best known as being the location of one of Scotland’s most important battles when Jacobite rebels fought the British Army in 1745. So let’s dive into the best beaches in Edinburgh. Beaches in Edinburgh You Should Visit Silverknowes Beach Edinburgh Another gorgeous beach in East Lothian with a mixed habitat of sand dunes and marshes which hold a healthy population of wildfowl.

It’s well known it takes at least three years to create a legal Scotch whisky. But this Scottish spirit takes just three days! On the first day the still is filled with grain neutral spirit. As with most Scottish gins, and indeed those from throughout the UK, Edinburgh Gin buy this in. Wake up to the sound of the waves by wild camping on Gullane Beach. Avoid the wind by bagging a spot protected by the sloping sand dunes, but don’t go so far that you don’t wake up to gorgeous views of the Firth of Forth to the west.

Completing the accommodation on the lower level is the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom. On the upper level there are four further good sized double bedrooms, and a family bathroom with feature window.

For the walk itself, head out of the town going north. You'll need to follow the road for about 10 minutes, then turn right and follow the signs. One point to note for visitors that like a good walk is that Musselburgh Lagoons is part of the John Muir Way, the 134-mile long-distance walking route that runs from Helensburgh on the west coast to Dunbar on the east coast. Visitors looking for things to do at Portobello Beach can also enjoy a number of sports activities ranging from beach volleyball to sailing and windsurfing. The centre provides swimming lessons, fitness classes, and leisurely swim sessions, making it an ideal destination for health-conscious visitors and families seeking fun-filled swimming experiences.Scotland’s coastline has lots of beaches for everyone to enjoy and the best part is, so many of them are easily reached by train. You’ll find Longniddry Bents by following the A198 towards Gosford House which is a beautiful neoclassical manor house with extensive grounds that are open to the public at no cost. Edinburgh Seaside Gin has an interesting story in itself. The distillery has a knowledge transfer partnership with nearby Heriot-Watt University, one of the few institutions in the U.K. where you can acquire a degree in distilling. Indeed, Edinburgh Gin’s own head of distilling, David Wilkinson, is an alumnus of the programme. And it was with students on the Heriot-Watt MSc that Edinburgh Seaside was made. Overall, a visit to Portobello Beach offers a fantastic family day out, and with its fascinating history, picturesque setting, and lively atmosphere it’s no wonder that this seaside retreat has remained a popular destination for locals and visitors alike for well over 100 years.
