Description

Of course, you might also be able to imagine how much of a challenge this could be. If we have an eight-voice synth that only has a single pitch bend wheel and a single knob for each variable aspect of the sound, how could we possible achieve this level of control? Well, that's where MPE comes in. How Does MPE Work?

In its first few years, MPE was slow to catch on. Thankfully, that is different now—since its official adoption into the MIDI specification, its features have been standardized and even more software and hardware companies are starting to take advantage of its unique expressive potential. And now that MPE support is built into most major electronic production-oriented DAWs (including Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, Apple Logic Pro, and more), we can expect to hear it cropping up in forward-thinking music from here on out. What is MPE Good For? There’s also a “ Bend” button on the left-hand side to use for pitch-bending purposes. Note that you can also adjust the range of this button within the editor. On the right-hand side, you have your controls for saving and recalling presets. Under the “ Keyboard” tab, you can basically edit the behaviour of the keyboard. The “ Controller” tab allows you to assign additional notes, Tilt CCs and Pressure settings for individual keys. Lastly, you have your “ CV” tab where you can edit the CV input and output! But the outside had some problems too which friends have said sounds like tropospheric ozone, and we are not supposed to have much of that down here at least.

Features

To be honest, I don’t use all the features that it offers in my musical work. But still, I know 100% for sure that I will be able to do whatever I request not only in the digital domain but also in the hardware synths world is really cool! Preset B (Press + Tilt): Pressure is set to modulation, and Tilt is set to pitch bend. Prepared for a more exciting and expressive playing experience.

If you're active in the music production sphere, odds are that you've heard about MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) —over the last few years, it's caused quite a buzz. Even if you haven't used it before, you likely have a basic understanding: MPE is an extension of the standard MIDI protocol that represents expanded opportunity for expressive electronic music production and performance. Finally, connect the MIDI Out on the MIDI Expander to the MIDI IN on a synth or other MIDI devices you would like to use. Connect QuNexus to MIDI Hardware (Powered by your computer) Sensel's Morph is another crowd favorite MPE controller that offers its own unique take on touch interaction. The Morph itself is a thin, tablet-sized continuous touch surface with astounding resolution and remarkable force sensitivity—but its brilliance lies in its use of exchangeable silicone overlays. A separate control layer that allows each key to map to its own notes and/or CCs for intricate control The Morph's magnetic silicone overlays allow you to change its behavior at a moment's notice: just place an overlay on the Morph and it will suddenly adapt to suit the layout of the overlay you've selected. With available overlays including a piano-like layout, MPD-style pads/knobs/sliders layout, drum pads, and even an overlay based on the rare experimental Buchla Thunder MIDI controller, Morph offers a huge range of options for how you interact with sound. On the other hand, here is an honest remark for you; it’s a bit more pricey than its competitor brands. So for people like me who would just use basic functions and features, this might turn off some of the potential buyers when you can get a simpler controller for much cheaper prices. What's even more incredible is that you can extensively customize the behavior of each overlay itself. By default, the music-oriented overlays are designed for out-of-the box MPE operation—but depending on your needs, you can use the Sensel App to re-configure almost every detail of how your personal Morph maps each overlay's controls. If you want an extremely portable, rugged, and highly customizable controller, the Morph comes highly recommended. As I have mentioned in my review here, the main reason for me to buy a controller was to be able to trigger VSTi drums. However, the sensation of being ready for most musical scenarios and being able to control almost everything with this tiny device was also very tempting for me. Preset A (Basic): Pressure is turned off, and Tilt is active for a conventional keyboard playing style. Designed for music-makers, by music-makers, QuNexus offers you everything you want out of a keyboard now, and anything you can imagine in the future. Keith set out to create a deeply expressive and adaptable keyboard that can be personally programmed by each artist, but can also withstand the realities of daily use and abuse. The result is QuNexus, the toughest and smartest keyboard on the market.

I've had great fun controlling both some large orchestral plugins, guitar, brass and other patches and I hope you'll enjoy experimenting with this too. To be honest, the QuNexus editor allows you to customize your QuNexus in the most extreme ways possible! It’s not really feasible to feature every single fine-tuning you can do here in this review as it would turn it into a complete manual! It turns out there's 12 sensors for each KBP4 key that, should you wish to, you can individual tailor to your touch. For experts only, I would hazard. Keith has designed the electric violins and Mirror 6 MIDI Guitars (Zeta Music), programmable audio mixers (AKAI MPX820 & MB76), SoftStep 3D MIDI foot controller, K-Bow Bluetooth sensor bow, QuNeo 3D pad controller, K-Board and QuNexus MIDI controllers keyboards so far.
