Description

The Dreamer scores 1 point for each Dream card on the Yellow side of the board. They also score 2 extra points if they mentioned all the Elements placed on the Yellow side of the board when recounting the dream. Players cannot say a clue that is part of the word on the dream card. (For example, you cannot say “prince” if the word is “princess”). If a player gives an improper clue, the current Dream card is placed in front of that player as a penalty. It will reduce their score by one point at the end of the game. Proceed with the newly revealed card but make sure that the Dreamer knows that the Dream card has changed. Make sure everyone is paying attention at all times so that no one misses out on any of the clues given by the Dream Master.

The player sitting to the left of the Dreamer becomes next round's Dreamer. They take the sleep mask and all of the Dream Spirit cards, including the one that was set aside. If there is the same number of dream cards on both sides, they score one point for each card on the yellow side plus two extra points. As far as components go, there are some great things in the box and some not so great. The cards are large and brightly illustrated, with 4 words per card (2 on each side, 1 on each end) that are cleverly designed so that only 1 word is visible during play. This is due to a fancy bed-shaped card holder that enhances the feel of the game, and a neatly organized board that indicates where to put right and wrong guesses. Scoring reminders are printed on the board as well. Also, the blindfold has a fun little design on it and should fit most people. The dreamer’s goal is to guess as many words from the dream cards as possible before the time runs out.iSlaytheDragon would like to thank Asmodee North America and Repos Production for providing a review copy of When I Dream.

The dreamer must guess what is on the dream card. If they guess correct, it goes to the side of the team playing good spirits. If the guess is wrong, the card is won by the naughty spirits. Starting with the player to the left of the dreamer and then moving around the table, each dream spirit must offer a single word clue which may or may not relate to the element shown on the topmost dream card. If they hesitate or are unable to supply a word they may pass to the next player who may in turn play a word or pass. At any moment the dreamer may interrupt to guess the element or, if they are completely stumped, pass. If they guess correctly the topmost dream card is placed on the right hand side of the draw pile, conversely if they guess incorrectly or pass the card is placed on the left hand side. Play then resumes as before with the newly revealed dream card. When I dream is an easy to learn party game for all ages that's full of laughs from the get go. Whether you're the dreamer, a good spirit, or a bad one, each role has its own unique challenges and each time you play is shaped by the extent of your imagination, making every play-through a new experience to remember. The game is played over the course of Night and Day. During the Night, one player will act as the Dreamer, and during the Day, the player will rehearse their Dream to the group. The Dreamer will shuffle the Spirit cards and deal one to each of the players. The players will look at their cards, ensuring that they stay hidden from the other players. The Dreamer can then put on the sleep mask. Before the player removes the mask, they will recount their Dream to the group, mentioning all the elements that they can remember. They may then remove their mask and tally their points. The Dreamer will score one point for each Dream card that finds its way to the yellow side, as will the Fairies, and the Boogeymen score a point for each card that finds its way to the blue side. The cards are then removed from the table, and a new round begins. END OF GAME

These spirits influence the dream for better or for worse. Naughty spirits try to lead the dreamer astray. A round lasts 120 seconds. Each round spirits draw dream cards that depict a specific part of the dream and describe them to the dreamer using one word each.

Choose who goes first ” this is usually done by rolling a special die or having each person take turns counting down from 5 and whoever stops at 1 goes first!

Even worse than that though was my mask broke after only the second game. A sign of poor quality that carried over to the sand timer as well. As it stopped intermittently throughout our plays. However, that may be in part due to our Australian humidity, which at times feels like you’re walking through jelly. And actually, it’s quite the “brain game” for the dreamer. They will be listening, guessing and deciphering who’s who, all while trying to remember every guess they give. Players win by scoring the most points after each player has had a turn to be the dreamer. Subtract one point for each penalty.
