Magnetic letters to use on the fridge are a great way to encourage children to spell. Think about the shape of the letter though, some of the plastic magnetic letters are a little fancy and might confuse some children! Scrabble letters can be more challenging to use because they’re all capitals. They might make a good challenge for more able spellers though. Moving letters around to create words is fun and less permanent than putting them down on paper, so children with lower self-esteem might like spelling out words this way. #8 How Many Times Use this spelling worksheet generator to create your own spelling practice worksheets. If your child’s teacher has provided spelling words for your child, you can simply type those words into the word box and select which worksheet you would like to create. The word lists are made by spelling rules and include several words that follow that rule. Spelling lists do not go by grade level until your child has mastered all of the spelling rules. Some children will master the spelling rules sooner than others, so until then, use the spelling assessment to see which rules your child needs to work on and select from the pre-made lists. You should select which words on the list fit your child’s needs and delete the others – they are only there for ideas.

Spelling is one of those subjects we dread to teach, and making spelling fun is an ongoing battle. It is so hard to make learning spellings fun, and the truth of the matter is, the only real way to learn English spellings is by writing the word out lots and lots of times. In fact, studies show that children need to write out a word in their independent work about 10-15 times before they learn it’s spelling off by heart. Some children might need less, but some children will need more – a lot more. The student at the front of line 1 will select a paper slip from the bowl and read the word out loud. We also have this Words Beginning With 'super' and 'anti' Spelling Board Game! Other Ideas and Spelling Activities: If the word is spelled incorrectly, give the word to the student seated in front of them. If that student spells the word correctly, that student becomes the next traveller.

Hardly any words in the English origin end in 'j', 'v' or 'u'. There are some exceptions - see if you can think of any!

Spelling is an important skill that children need to develop so they can become effective communicators. There are lots of ways that you can encourage this in the classroom, like the ones we've listed below: Let them play with their food for a change and do a spelling or two at dinner time. You can do this with a lot of different food, but something like spaghetti would probably be easiest!
