Description

It (killing/fighting) proves that I am a true Moslem. That I care enough to fight and maybe even to die for my faith. For a country that will be all Moslem and I will belong there. Are you capable of understanding that? Regarding the Indian Army, I read that one of the post-Mutiny precautions was to ensure that the British Army battalions stationed in India always had a rifle more advanced than that issued to the sepoys in the Indian Army. So, by the late 1890s, the Indian troops had Martini-Henrys, but the British had Lee Metford, forerunner of the Lee Enfield, a magazine rifle capable of a greater rate of fire. I wonder if you can spot a bolt-action magazine rifle in 15mm scale! probably! In 1876 the three Punjab Light Field Batteries were reduced to form two further mountain batteries, [59] and the four were then renumbered according to their relative precedence, and designated Punjab Mountain Batteries, Punjab Frontier Force. [100] India, 1905. A British soldier is assigned to protect a 6-year-old Maharaja's son and his American governess from Muslim rebels. Show full synopsis

The interesting point to note, in relation to the film, is that the British assumed that this was an isolated local incident and had no idea that there was shortly to be a mass rising of the, normally feuding, tribes. In the film, Lauran Bacall's character is roundly patronised by a somewhat complacent officer when she suggests this is the start of a widespread rising. Filmink called it "a rousing adventure set in India with excellent action/spectacle mixed in with sooky Imperial propaganda, and Lauren Bacall ranks with Sally Ann Howes and Kay Kendall as More’s most effective love interest." [24] Indeed, dangerous country. The middle picture is of a station called Hangu. The right hand is, I think, of Thal. I am not sure the line was there in 1897, but I think it was by 1905; a lot of the railways in this area where military in inspiration, so went hand in hand with the growing need to campaign in the region. The Khojak tunnel line in Baluchistan, for instance, was completed in 1891. The line to Kohat is not shown in the maps in Frontier Ablaze. In 1901 the battery numbers were dropped, and they became known by name only. [103] Two years later the four mountain batteries were re-numbered from twenty-one, and the former Piffer batteries were thus:- In 1957, More announced he would play "a romantic adventure" part set during the Indian Mutiny, Nightrunners of Bengal. [5] That film was never made and it is likely that More was transferred instead to North West Frontier, a similar project. [5] Olivia de Havilland was originally announced as the female lead. [6] Lauren Bacall's casting was announced in January 1959. [7] She sold her Hollywood house and put her children in school in London for the duration of the shoot. [8] Filming [ edit ]

British response

The Frontier Revolt of 1897-8 saw the Kohat and Derajat batteries in action again, earning the honours T IRAH and P UNJAB F RONTIER. [102]

Regiment, originally raised at Karachi in 1843 as the Scinde Camel Corps, and redesignated Punjab Infantry in 1853. [84] Burgundy's locomotive is in Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway livery, which perhaps suggests that this type did, indeed, run of the Rajputana metre gauge system where the India railway scenes were filmed? The fictional town of Haserabad comes under siege by the entirely generic rebels, but Captain Scott – having immediately been established as our almost omnipotent English hero – naturally devises a way to escape with the prince. He finds a rather neglected old steam train that can be rigged up to break out of the city gates and reach safety in the distant city of Kalapur. Besides Prince Kishan and his American governess (Lauren Bacall), Scott will be accompanied by the Governor’s wife Lady Windham (Ursula Jeans), a senior British civil servant named Bridie (Wilfrid Hyde White), Gupta the engine driver (I. S. Johar), and two Indian soldiers who the filmmakers have apparently decided not to burden with either names or characters. Thompson, Howard (30 April 1960). "Review: Flame over India". The New York Times . Retrieved 8 August 2017.We are in British India, Moslem rebels want to kill a young Hindu prince and thus killing his family blood line. The British army are charged with the task of ensuring the prince is safely escorted from the troubled provinces. The duty falls to one intrepid Captain Scott, the only chance to achieve the aim is by train, with his allies on board being a rather unique group of individuals, can Scott achieve the mission against the mounting odds?. Now I do know that 1 inch = 25.4mm, so, whereas 6 feet in 4mm or 1/76 scale is 24mm, 6 feet in 1.72nd is 25.4mm. North West Frontier has everything a great action adventure should have, whilst also adding in tension, drama and an array of wonderfully colourful characters. The opening to the film is pulsating, as Scott has to fight off the rebels whilst smuggling the prince and his governess out to safety. From then on we are on a train journey that is rich with enjoyment, the tension mounts among the passengers, not least because of the class and cultural differences, and perhaps allmotives are not in alignment? But they must club together if they are to survive this dangerous journey.
