You continue along the coast, passing Bracelet Bay and Limeslade Bay before heading to the lovely Langland Bay. There's a nice beach here and great views down the Gower coast. Until 1974, Gower was administered as a rural district. It was then merged with the county borough of Swansea. From 1974 to 1996, it formed the Swansea district. [1] Since 1996, Gower has been administered as part of the unitary authority of the City and County of Swansea. Worm's Head is shaped like a giant sea-serpent and marks the most westerly tip of Gower. It's a unique place and one of the most fascinating features of this beautiful area of Wales. A windswept walk through dunes and marram grasses eventually leads you to Blue Pool, a small bay to which you have to scramble downhill to reach.

The northern coast is mainly salt marsh, and is used for raising Gower salt marsh lamb which was registered as a Protected Designation of Origin in 2021 under UK law [5] [6] and in 2023 under EU law. [7] The Gower Peninsula stretches towards the west from the City of Swansea, spanning approximately 19 miles. It boasts a diverse landscape, with its southern coast adorned with sandy beaches and scenic cliff paths, while the northern coast is characterized by expansive salt marshes that gradually merge into the Loughor Estuary. The route runs for a distance of just over 4 miles on a undulating coastal path, passing Langland Bay on the way. Insider tip: The lone white house above the beach is the Old Rectory, which is owned and operated by landowners the National Trust. It’s by far the most popular of the Rhossili cottages where you can stay – it’s often booked up three years in advance.

The western end of Oxwich beach is much busier. The Oxwich Bay parking area is here, and the Oxwich Bay Hotel, a great base for Gower holidays, overlooks the beach. The Rhossili Bay Walk will take you along the beautiful beach before climbing to the high point of the Gower on Rhossili Down. History and heritage

Bracelet Bay beach is just around the corner along Mumbles Road, which can be reached from the Pier by a flight of stone steps. Three Cliffs Bay is one of the most photographed areas of Gower and it's clear to see why. Once again you'll have to walk there, but the walk itself from Parkmill through a wide valley is a dreamy experience in itself. Broughton Bay beach is one of the most secluded west Wales beaches. The north-west Gower beaches are much more isolated and exposed to wind than their neighbours to the south.

In 1535, the Act of Union resulted in the Lordship of Gower becoming part of the historic county of Glamorgan with the southwest part becoming the hundred of Swansea. Swansea Bay beach runs from the edge of the city centre towards the beachside suburb of Mumbles, which is also known as Oystermouth. It’s at the western end of the Gower Peninsula, with views to Pembrokeshire in the west and out to Lundy Island to the south-west in the Bristol Channel.
