Of course learning here does not occur unless it is accompanied by lots of hands on activities. I am excited about this aspect as I will still be able to use my own creativity to come up with lots to do, making and creating items which will reflect the girls learning. We intend to leave Thursday as our activity day as they do not go over to Granny’s house on a Thursday.

Mystery of History Volume I Companion Guide

The Mystery of History binder is dissimilar to most history files in that it is arranged chronologically by continent. The girls will have one each and will keep all their work, in addition to photographs of all their projects.

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried. SOTW does follow a classical model with four cycles of history studies being presented over three main life stages: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. However, you would likely only use SOTW for the Grammar and Logic Stages (approximately K-8) and want to find a more comprehensive curriculum for the high school years. Do you find SOTW to be enough history? Usborne Books – You can’t beat Usborne for detailed, fantastic illustrations in their history books for children. Though they do not hold to a biblical worldview, I use them because I’m teaching plenty of biblical worldview the rest of the day! I like their history encyclopedias and history readers. Hunt down all the old ones you can find; they have some great current titles, but not nearly as many as they used to. (See my post about my favorites here.) We finished Volume 2 in about nine months. This year, we did 4-6 lessons per week. Normally, I don’t try to beat the calender, but two of my students were set to graduate by May, and we wanted to finish the book before then.
