I fitted the Whale product to my previous Herald motorhome in an attempt to cure spitting at the water-taps. However, I can't comment on its effectiveness as the problem turned out to be due to an air leak where the water pipework connected to the fresh-water tank. The little problem, which is more annoying than a problem is the sound from the pump. When any tap is used we get "water hammering"...this goes on for maybe 5/6 secs when the tap is closed.The universal expansion tank also saves on water and electricity, increasing the pump performance and prolonging the life of the pump, all for an outlay of around half the price of the pump. Models with 1/2-14 ports: Insert the rubber washers in each port. Threaded fittings (plastic/nylon only) should be torqued approximately 1/2 to 1 turn after hand-tightened. I think one needs to be a bit careful with "nothing to do with", as there should be an interrelationship between accumulator pre-charge and the cut in setting of the pump's pressure switch.
