Poly Sync 40: PC via combined USB-A and USB-C cable; smartphone via Bluetooth. Poly Sync 40+: PC via combined USB-A and USB-C cable or wirelessly via included BT600 Bluetooth adapter; smartphone via Bluetooth

In this blog, I don’t intend to pour through the many personal speakerphone options you have. Instead, I’m going to compare two models from two companies on the list above. Specifically, I’ll be comparing the Jabra Speak 710, and the newer Poly Sync 20. On the surface, the Poly Sync 20 seems to be the more technologically advanced, and potentially the better sounding conference phone. After all, it has three microphones that are “steerable” where the Jabra Speak 710 has a single microphone. Does this translate to superior sound? I did sound tests on both. Specifically, I did these tests: Our rule of thumb is to take the stated range, 100 feet in this case, and divide it in half. That would put both of these speakerphones at around 50 feet of usable range. If you use this method, you’ll end up with a more realistic expectation when it comes to range. Connectivity The Poly Sync 20+ primarily offers USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Depending on the model, either a USB Type-A or a Type-C connection can be availed. Both the Sync 20 and Sync 20+ can connect to smartphones via built-in Bluetooth and to PC or Mac via USB. However, only the Sync 20+ can wirelessly pair with a PC and that requires using the bundled BT600 dongle. A direct Bluetooth pairing with PC would have been useful. The Poly Sync 20 comes in a number of different models, which can be difficult to distinguish at first glance. The base Poly Sync 20 differs from the Poly Sync 20+, which comes with a Bluetooth dongle, and these two device categories are divided again into models with either USB-A or USB-C cables.Poly Sync 20 is the smallest member of the Poly Sync Family which also includes the Poly Sync 40*, for flexible/huddle rooms, and the Poly Sync 60** for small to medium conference rooms. Here are seven reasons why Poly Sync 20 is the best speakerphone for working from home. 1 – Unparalleled Audio Quality Focus on what’s being said and help keep echo and noise out of the meeting with the smart multi-microphone array. You and your remote participants sound amazing with the high-performance speaker. Portability The audio and microphone quality are solid enough for video conferencing, but the Sync 20 doesn’t stand up particularly well if you want to play music. And while the smart aesthetic and small footprint allow the speakerphone to sit tidily on your desk, and there are a few handy features, performance quirks detract from the experience. If there were an advantage here, I’d say it goes to the Poly Sync 20 as it provides 25% more battery life even though it takes 25% longer to charge. Warranty

Because of Poly’s robust software and device management, the Poly Sync 20’s rich audio experience will only continue to get better over time through updates. This sleek, compact device was designed to be flexible – so you can work from anywhere and be guaranteed the best Microsoft Teams experiences. Have further questions, or need some help? Use it in Your Off Time – The Sync 20 is not just a speakerphone, it’s also a high-performance speaker that can be used for listening to music. That’s right – the bass reflex system that ensures high-quality, natural-sounding voice is also responsible for making your tunes sound great in your downtime. With a good deal of today's workforce increasingly opting for remote work, a good speakerphone that augurs well for collaboration has become essential to overcome limitations in conventional laptop and smartphone audio setups. Poly has also taken plenty of care to ensure the Sync 20 is extremely light (360g) and small (less than 20cm wide), and can therefore be transported easily using the case provided. Poly Sync 20: PC via USB, smartphone via Bluetooth. Poly Sync 20+: PC via USB or included BT600 Bluetooth adapter, smartphone via Bluetooth

One very attractive feature of the Jabra Speak 710 is you can daisy chain two of the speakerphones together wirelessly. That provides you with two omnidirectional microphones as well as two speakers for a stereolike sound. This capability is extremely useful when you have a group of people assembled for a meeting. More microphone coverage, portability and superior speaker sound. You're ready for anything from meetings to music to charging your smart phone. The internal battery is ready to go with up to 20 hours of portable use on a full charge. You can even use it tocharge your smartphone via USB. Works the way you do If you’re looking for a personal speakerphone that can be used with your video conferencing or Softphone calls, you have several brands to choose from. For example, you could explore the models available from companies such as: One feature that’s pretty cool on the Sync 20 is it has a USB port that can be used to charge a mobile phone even when being used for a meeting. That’s a nice feature because it seems mobile phone batteries are always needing a charge. For example, the USB-A port for device charging is a nice touch, meaning you can effectively use the Sync 20 as an emergency power bank (provided the device’s own battery is at medium or higher). But, before I get started, I wanted to let you know that I created a video on this. In my video, I compare these two models for their features and sound quality. However, I feel fairly safe in saying that most people who use a product like this, aren’t in noisy environments. Still, good to know before making your buying decision. Talk time Though both of these speakerphones look professional, I have to say that the Poly Sync 20 has a more refined look. It’s nicely appointed with a fabric material that covers a good portion of it. The rest of the device is reserved for control buttons. That said, looks will only take you so far, so let’s look further. Bluetooth Version

We designed the Sync 20 to be taken with you wherever you go — it’s slim, light, and comes with a carrying case and wrist lanyard. n this sense, hearing is believing, at least to the extent that one of these speakerphones will sound better to you as it did for me. I’ll insert the video immediately below for easy access. To complicate matters further, Poly offers special Microsoft Teams versions of both the Sync 20 and Sync 20+, both with either USB-A or USB-C connectivity. This makes for a total of eight different SKUs.Unlike several other Bluetooth speakers on the market, the Sync 20+ does not come with a voice assistant of its own and relies on the device it is connected to for voice commands. Also, a direct pairing with PC over Bluetooth instead of having to sacrifice a USB port for the BT600 dongle is something Poly can consider for the next iteration.
