Description

The overall shape is a sort of hybrid between rectangular and tonneau. The case is rectangular, but a rectangle that bows outward along the top, bottom, and side edges. And while the case sides on the left and right are closer to vertical, the top and bottom ends slope outward, away from the bezel and toward the lugs. All of which adds up to a case design that’s as interesting as it is polarizing. Polished and brushed finishes on the case sides At the time of the watches release, manufacturers were breaking new dive records. Diver's were going ever deeper - for both work and recreation. But not everyone into dive watches needed that functionality. So it's no surprise that Seiko regularly delves into its own archives to inspire its new models. They use a variety of terms. Sometimes it's a reissue, and other times it's more of a reinterpretation. But it's the design that wins here. It's instantly recognisable and has been popular since the 1970s. This is an accessible way to get that retro-styling now.

I'm sure that you'll find something here. Be it a re-creation of Seiko's debut dive watch or a modern interpretation of their 'mountain man' piece. They've been at the forefront of watchmaking innovation. Inevitably, they've made some influential and iconic watches through the decades. But the watch is a legitimate diver and has 200M of water resistance. And the other specs are good too - they should be - this isn't an inexpensive watch. This is a bold watch. A watch that doesn't hint at vintage inspiration, but goes all-in. It's also the most affordable watch on my list. The dial is also familiar to fans of vintage Seiko divers. It has simple rectangular markers and straight hands. But despite these common features, it's a beautiful design. And this modern reinterpretation successfully captures the dive watch chic of the time.

The 6 Best Seiko Reissues, Reinterpretations, Re-creations

And it's the appearance that wins me over with this watch. It might have a Hardlex crystal rather than sapphire. And many Seiko fans will think that it's a bit pricey. Then there is the water-resistance. It's only 50M. Perhaps your forebearer never owned such a watch, or at least never passed it down to you. That’s where I imagine the Seiko Recraft SNKP27 steps in. It’s a different sort of watch, offering the flair of yesteryear, crafted with modern parts, at a modern size. The Recraft gives you a sense of a connection to the past. And it should earn you plenty of compliments in the present. The affordable and vintage-inspired Seiko Recraft SNKP27 The Seiko Recraft SeriesThe green dial Seiko Recraft SNKP27 is an interesting watch to look at and a fun watch to wear. At first thought, I wasn’t sure who this watch was for. But thinking about it a little more, I think that essentially, this Seiko Recraft is for those who just want something different. It’s probably not going to be someone’s one and only watch, or their first mechanical watch—unless they really want something that is out of the ordinary, that looks very different from what nearly everyone else is wearing. Then yes, this could be that watch. If you're familiar with Skin Diver watches you'll recognise that DNA in the Seiko. And the reissue faithfully recreates that aesthetic. I love the look of this watch. The hands are similar to the Alpinist, but the overall appearance is closer to Blancpain's 1950s diver. It's more affordable than some of the others on my list and features an in-house Calibre 4R35 automatic movement. Still, it borrows heavily from the earlier design, successfully recreating an exciting era for the brand.

Seiko Recraft UFO Limited Edition – KibbleWatches

And that is how it should be. It's not a Skin Diver like the 62MAS. Instead, this model is a professional diver. A tough watch designed for long periods in water. The Alpinist line is still available. It has now been widened to include watches that celebrate their debut models. Beyond the dial, the SNKP27 case is a large part of what sets this watch apart from so many others. And part of what makes it so appealing. Or perhaps unappealing, to those who just don’t connect with the watch’s unique aesthetic. Not your average round watch This is a versatile watch. More at home in the office than the previous two divers. It's ideal if you want more flexibility.Technically, the reissue is an upgrade of the original. The water resistance is increased from 150 to 200M and the modern Seiko movement is an improvement. That's why this watch is top of my list. Like many of the well-established watch brands, they've periodically reissued their best vintage models.

The Seiko Recraft Series is Seiko’s modern line of affordable watches with vintage styling. The watches aren’t reissues of any specific past models. Instead, they have a vintage-inspired design language, making them reminiscent of watches from previous generations. And not just any watches. The Seiko Recraft series offers a unique, even quirky look that sets them apart from most watches available today. Particularly watches from mass-market brands. Seiko Recraft SNKP27 dimensions Durable Long Lasting Nylon Band Strap for Luxury Sports and Casual Watches - Waterproof and Washable (NYL-ALLB)The prices can vary widely. Some models are very expensive, while others are very affordable. So I'd like to show you a bit of both. The beautiful green version has a strong military vibe. I like that. The turtle or cushion case looks like a vintage diver. But the drab green feels authentic to the time period and its use in Vietnam. It was at this point that Seiko built their debut dive watch. The name 62MAS comes from the watches features - an autoMAtic Selfdater. The case is a substantial 43mm cushion case design. It's typical of the period and reminiscent of the watches our dads wore in the 1970s. But most are probably looking for that affordable standout piece in their collection, unlike anything else that they have. It will appeal to those who want vintage style and the look of craftsmanship from a past era. And it should appeal to people with the confidence to wear such an out of the ordinary watch, particularly in a time of featureless aluminum and glass slabs gracing so many wrists. The Seiko Recraft SNKP27 will stand out—and you will get noticed for wearing it.
