About this deal

Making great coffee with any form of pour-over method requires a kettle with a narrow spout. A range of options exist but the Fellow EKG electric kettle stands out as one that has been designed to offer amazing functionality but also looks great in any kitchen environment. Was it worth it? Fifty quid does seem a lot for a small piece of plastic with a little metal sieve, however, it does it's job very well and if it improves my brew then it's actually a cheaper upgrade than just about anything else.

But all these features are already available on the Stagg kettle—these aren’t new features of the Pro or Pro Studio. The original Fellow electric kettle, the Stagg EKG, is a great kettle, and we didn’t find the Pro or Pro Studio to offer any additional features that felt gamechanging. Of course, for some people, these new features might be revolutionary: an automatic timer or the ability to adjust for elevation might be the thing you’ve been waiting for all along, but overall, these features were exciting to explore, but didn’t feel necessary for a broad audience. Electric kettles are considerably more pricey than stovetop kettles. However, they can make a big difference when it comes to brewing great pour over consistently. One of the options we have reviewed and enjoy using is the Brewista Artisan. However, in this article, we will examine its main rival. The Fellow Stagg EKG is a high-end electric kettle highly rated by specialty coffee enthusiasts in particular.During that period, you have time to prepare your pour over filter and dripper and grind some beans. By the time you have done those things, the water will be ready to pour, and at the precise temperature you desire. If you generally brew coffee in a room with lots going on, you might not even notice the sound your electric kettle makes. However, that’s not always the case, particularly at times of the day where others might be sleeping nearby. To test the noise levels, we used a cellphone app. Most kettles have a pretty rudimentary display screen, only showing the temperature of the water as it is heating or the final temperature you set, but not both. Every Stagg electric kettle allows users to see both, and you can watch the temperature climb up to the desired set point. Similarly, this is for those who love elegance. Part of what you are paying for with the Fellow Stagg EKG is its aesthetic appeal. If you are just looking for variable temperature control and precision pouring then the Brewista Artisan kettle will do it for you at a significantly cheaper price. You are paying for the feeling of pride that the EKG will give you every time you see it in your kitchen.

There’s also a question of how useful some of the new features actually are, particularly in a café setting where baristas are making pour overs all the time—many of the Pro Studio features seem to be designed around home users. Being able to schedule your kettle to boil right when you wake up sounds nice, but it only takes about four minutes for the kettle to go from room temperature to boiling, and you have to remember to set up your water the night before. The color LED screen is nice, but doesn’t actually make a difference in terms of precisely boiling water. Whether you are a coffee aficionado or a brewing beginner, Stagg EKG is more than never your countertop partner in the pursuit of a ridiculously good cup of coffee. The capacity of the kettle is 900ml (30oz). This measurement equates to between one and three cups of pour over at a time. The weight of the kettle is approximately 737 grams, which makes it easy to pour using only one hand, while the handle has an ergonomic shape for consistent and steady circular pouring. How To Use The Fellow Stagg EKG Kettle Although it’s not needed to use the product, we will occasionally provide updates to the firmware in your Stagg EKG Pro or Pro Studio Edition to ensure everything is running optimally and that your kettle has the latest firmware. Choosing not to use the app will not diminish the usefulness of your kettle, as the updates are not needed for the Pro or Pro Studio Edition to work Do they want consistent boiling temperature and precise temperature control? Do they need a kettle that boils water automatically each morning so they can start their day with a perfect cup of coffee or tea? Are they aesthetically minded and looking for a sleek, modern design? Once you've answered these questions, you can start to narrow your search based on other factors such as the material of construction (stainless steel vs. plastic), heating method (stovetop vs. electric), special features such as programmable timers, and price point. Ultimately, the best electric kettle for you will depend on your individual preferences and needs, so we encourage you to explore the many options available and find the one that's right for you. With the price you pay for the Fellow Stagg EKG you would expect a high level of performance quality. I mean quite simply it costs more than some entry level espresso machines and it is an electric kettle!

My cup boileth over: Now kettles have Wi-Fi too, apparently

When choosing an electric kettle, we suggest a few key features customers should consider. First, we invite customers to imagine what they'd want from their kettle: Brew Stopwatch – After your water has heated, use EKG’s built-in Brew Stopwatch to time your extraction. You can absolutely get an electric kettle with temperature control for cheaper, but what you’re paying for here are build quality, looks, and a myriad of other factors. Think of it like buying a nice pair of headphones. It recorded a high of 60dB and an average of 44dB. On the other hand, the Brewista Artisan is not quite as quiet, with a peak of 62dB and an average of 55dB. While both kettles are among the quieter ones on the market, those few decibels might make a difference depending on when – and where – you brew coffee. Maintain Your Desired TemperatureFeaturing a reflective glass base and sleek metal touchpoints, our new Stagg EKG Pro Studio Edition makes the ultimate countertop statement. The kettle holds water at your temperature of choice for up to an hour, and a built-in stopwatch counts the extraction or steep time. And there’s an Easter egg: Take the kettle off of the base, toggle its switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, and a retro-looking game called Wormy will pop up to play as you brew.”— Lauren Levy, The Strategist By contrast, using the Fellow Stagg EKG almost feels like cheating in comparison. You simply turn on the kettle, set your temperature, and within 1-3 minutes you are ready to brew. The PID controlled variable temperature function is super helpful if you do like playing around with brewing variables or switch between different brewing methods. So, while I usually use the 100C water for V60 and Kalita Wave, I tend to use lower temperatures for the Aeropress, and the Stagg electric kettle makes this a breeze. Ready to brew like a pro?
