Description

This is a well written book with many twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read/listen to the audiobook. Only at the end with the publishers note, I understood what bothered me- no cohesion in the storytelling, a lot of trivial information while the last several chapters actually refer to Stevie and the hotter than July four.

It took me a little bit to get with all the characters at first with this one as there were quite a few names and as the timeline flipped between shortly before, the day of and the past and their lives interconnected so much, I did have to concentrate a little to start with. THIS BOOK HAS EVERYTHING, secrets, lies, affairs, betrayal, murder, mystery, jaw dropping twists and turns! Before I start with my actual thoughts I must say I listened to the audiobook and being from America I will say the narrator reminded me ALOT of Peppa pig 🐷 Now it’s Wednesday and more and more little things are coming up. Things aren’t adding up and Annie is dead. I listened to the audiobook. It was a shame the narrator didn;t do different voices for the different characters. Everything is kept upbeat. Sure, Gil talks a lot about the bad decisions he has made, but he never actually relates many events where he did something very wrong.Upon its release in New York City in November 1950, Bosley Crowther called it an "amusing and poignant little picture" that is "simple and modest in structure but delightfully rich in character." [5] I loved the way this was presented to us. Fed little bits of knowledge throughout that left us wondering about what went on in the past, what's been going on since and what might be about to happen. The connection between Gil Scott-Heron and Stevie Wonder seems obvious to me now, though I may not have made it before reading this book. This is the best psychological thriller I have read so far… A fantastic read and is recommended to all those who enjoy mystery and psychological thrillers.’ Once Upon A Read, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the first book I've read by this author and oh my gosh!! I need more already because I literally devoured this in 2 days! Thanks to the author, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the audio copy. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

From one of the most influential souls in the music business, this grammy lifetime achievement award recipient has worked along side some of the greatest there ever were. Evoking a coolness he perfected during his era; his voice, style, charisma, charm and talent touched the youths of the inner city and the big wigs at Carnegie Hall. The brother was bad! But again, he wrote this autobiography with a gratefulness thanks for being able to share his message and please. While unbalanced and obviously unfinished, there is much to like. The wit and the engaging tone of voice grab you, and you feel yourself in the presence of a very special person. The Male characters seemed to be not so important and I felt the story could have benefited from their narrative. The narrator did well to cover the diffrrent characters but it could have worked better with multiple narrators. How far will we go to keep our secrets hidden? And when does being close to someone start becoming dangerous…?

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The Beach Party' which I would also highly recommend.Personally, I loved the beginning much more than the end - where he described his upbringing, his family:

I take comfort in the fact that Heron did not sign of on the book, and as a fan, to me his last album " I'm new here" is much more of a glorious ending than this book. This man is such an inspiration. I was a fan of his before reading the book, but I never really realized how intelligent and thoughtful and wise and hard-working he was. He accomplished more before turning 22 years old than most people accomplish in a lifetime, and he never stopped working hard to improve himself and the world around him. Did it live up to my expectations? Yes and no. This book raises almost as many questions as it answers. Obviously, Mr Heron expected to be around a while longer to fill us in with those answers in a future volume. However, I'm talking just the first few chapters and then I was completely immersed in each of them and their different relationships. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and not only do I intend on reading more but I will be buying a hard copy of this book when it is released May 30th! I highly recommend it!One of us is responsible for Annie's death. One of us will stop at nothing to keep our secrets hidden... Investigators turn up a lot of these same secrets- and more, including an attempted suicide. Thinking that the two are related they accuse her of murder- after all she tried to kill herself to be with her husband why wouldn’t she kill someone else? Turns out, even more secrets come out and now a child goes missing.
