Karen Rose was introduced to suspense and horror at the tender age of eight when she accidentally read Poe's The Pit and The Pendulum and was afraid to go to sleep for years. She now enjoys writing books that make other people afraid to go to sleep. The story moved at a fast pace and gave us a lot of different players in the game. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect and trying to figure out just what was going to happen before it did. I liked that there were a lot of different parts to the story that came together and connected different pieces of the puzzle. It never felt like too much going on for me even though there were a lot of different things happening at once and even some of the past coming forward and being connected to new parts of the case.

I seriously miss the old Karen Rose books. There’s so much more atmosphere, suspense and a lot of mystery. You could feel the tension and the fear!! My heart ached for the innocent here because these bad guys were awful! I didn’t want anyone landing in their hands at all! My heart pounded as the events unfolded! Thankfully, Val and Kaj were smart and didn’t take unnecessary risks. Still… And, to hype up the tension, the major villain gets narration time as well. I really wanted some big-time justice there and Karen Rose delivered. However, with threats coming from every direction and trouble knowing who the team can trust.
