Description

This is the only waver among our recommendations that is not a barrel waver. Instead, it’s a wand and works the same way as other curling wands. But you can create a wider variety of styles than with a traditional curling wand thanks to the series of smaller barrels along its length. The perfect beach waves don’t always require a curling iron or wand—you can actually get really excellent results with a hair straightener, as seen in this easy-AF tutorial from Emily DiDonato, a content creator, model, and founder of Covey Skincare. Working in two-inch sections ( alligator clips will be v helpful here), clamp your flat iron over your hair, right at the root, then twist the iron away from your face and— while still clamped—pull it down to the ends of your hair. Continue down the section of hair until it is all waved (as a tip, try to line up the first barrel with the last wave you made, for a continuous wave down the hair shaft). What I LOVED about this curling wand (other than the flawless-looking wave it gave my hair), is the slightly grainy textured barrel. It grips onto hair, preventing strands from slipping down and ensuring an even, perfect-looking curl. This large-barrel curling tong has a ceramic coating that ensures waves look smooth and shiny. It's a 32mm width, so if you want loose yet polished-looking curls, it's worth investing in. Yes, it's expensive, but this curling tong has been designed with the 'user experience' in mind. It has a cool-touch tip so you can avoid burning those fingers, a super-long cord, and it automatically switches itself off if left unattended for 30mins or more - so you don't get that ' did I leave my tongs on?' fear, every morning on the way to work.

There are many ways to create beautiful beach waves. You can use the same flat iron you straighten your hair with, although this requires some deft hand skills. A better tool is a dedicated hair curler. But most curlers tend to create tighter ringlets rather than the gentle casual waves you are looking for. Beach waves will always be the “easiest” to get on straight hair, because you have no existing texture to compete with. So regardless of which tutorial you try below, you’ll want to first prep your hair by straightening out your natural texture—especially if you’re starting with type-3 curls or type-4 hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Staying Power: I was pleasantly surprised by how well these waves lasted. The narrow-shaped 'bar' gave curls a tighter set, meaning they lasted till my next hair wash. First, section off a one-inch strip of hair, work a dollop of curl cream through it, then flat-twist until you’ve reached the halfway point. When you hit the midway point, split the two sections of hair into three, and finish with a three-strand twist-out all the way to the end. The BaByliss Wave Envy is a double barrel waver with just three heat settings. These are significantly fewer than the 25 settings in the previous two wavers but still good enough for styling different hair types. The heat settings range from 160C to 200C. It's almost sunshine season and there are no prizes for guessing which hairstyle we're all about to start wearing... Beachy waves. Yup, to celebrate the return of summer's most-loved style, we've rounded up all the different ways you can create a beachy wave.

You've probably seen hair wavers (or deep wavers) floating around your social feeds recently—they're those giant, double-pronged, weapon-looking irons that clamp down on a section of hair and leave it wavy, like a modern-day crimper. Here, vlogger Jillian Lansky gets beachy waves on her short hair by first flat-ironing her hair (the waves will look more polished when you're working with straight hair), then clamping section by section, holding the iron horizontally on the lower sections and vertically on the top sections. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. This is a pro waver designed for salons. But you can just as easily use it at home. 25 temperature settings make it easy to choose the right heat level for your hair. The temperature ranges between 100C and 210C. Vlogger Chloe Brown has a choppy little bob haircut, so for anyone who says they can’t do beach waves on short hair, may I direct you to this curling-iron tutorial? The curls in this video may look a little sausage-y at first, but that’s actually the key: Tight, long curls (blasted with some sea-salt spray or texturizing spray, first, to give you a bunch of grip and hold) leave you with hella voluminous beach waves once you rake through them with your fingers at the end.Unwanted Food or Drink Products - Once supply conditions are broken, there are a number of factors outside of our control that can affect the quality of a product. Therefore perishable goods such as food and drink cannot be returned. There's no denying that this bumpy wand looks a little bulky but have faith, because it actually creates a really cool wave throughout the hair. The 32mm triple barrel design gives strands a loose mermaid wave, which ensures the hairstyle looks super-natural overall.

Just work a heat protectant through your curls then roughly straighten your hair. Don’t worry about getting it perfectly sleek and straight—the point here is to just neutralize your texture a bit before creating your waves. It takes a little while to get the hang of this styler, but once you do, it delivers b-e-a-u-tiful waves. You have to take a 1-2 inch wide section of hair and pass it through the plates to begin, then you press a button and the barrel begins to rotate. As it turns, the strand of hair is pulled through the plates and twisted, creating a soft curl. Essentially, it curls hair in the same way as you can with straighteners, but the rotating barrel makes it easy for the clumsy of us to cheat smooth, well-rounded waves. These voluminous beach waves are the result of simple twists—specifically, a flat twist into a three-strand twist (so yes, you’ll want to have your twisting game down before DIYing this one). To re-create these beach waves from creator Bria Larine, you’ll first want to blow out your 4c hair to stretch your hair and get a straighter texture. Then you’re going to work section by section to create your twists. Temperature: Whilst the wand gives a dreamy wave, you don't get any fancy thrills. There's an on/off switch to activate the heat, but no temperature dial, so you get what you're given when it comes to heat.Over the years, ghd has amassed a cult following for their trusted hair devices and their classic wave wand is up there when it comes to ranking. Got short hair? Great—it’ll take you even less time to get beach waves on short hair. To DIY at home, content creator Amber Scott suggests grabbing a smaller, one-inch curling iron or wand, since a smaller barrel will be easier to use on your shorter pieces. After sectioning off your hair, grab strips of hair and wind them around your iron or wand, twisting away from your face (no need to get super methodical about how wide your pieces are—the less perfect, the better).
