Hayari New Oud is a unisex French-style Oud that is warm and spicy. Designed by Cécile Zarokian, Hayari is earthy and warm like a chilly fall evening. Hayari is woody and floral in the opening notes, turning to vanilla and amber. I have to say that these are not the most complex fragrances, but they are rich and alluring. They are, above all, very elegant and refined perfumes, based on oud, spices, woods and leather. The feminine version takes on a strong floral (rose and peony) theme as well, but both can be unissex fragrances. Having said this, I recommend these two scents for any lover of the oriental/woody genre.

Now this is a traditional combination: oud and rose. But don't expect the same result as all other combinations based on these notes. Oud Oriental is more complex and subtle than that, and it's a gender-bender that will please all floriental lovers. Rose is the star of this creation, but it is masterfully distorted with freesia and violet to make it more spicy and sweet. This peppery, spicy-sweet rose makes the perfect pair for a very balmy and medicinal oud note that goes away with time, developing slowly on the skin and becoming slightly animalic (leather) towards the end. The sweetness of vanilla and heliotrope brings out the powdery aspect of Oud Oriental.

Additionally6, a nonspecific woodsy undertone emerges after while, which fits in nicely with the rest. Versace Oud Noir is a modern, masculine oud that smells like the more affordable cousin of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood. It’s an elegant dark scent with a spicy peppery opening, that turns sweetly exotic with heart notes of cardamom and saffron leading neatly to the base of oud, patchouli, and leatherwood. It’s an easy-to-wear fragrance that would work equally well in the daytime at the office as going out for drinks in the evening.

While taken very seriously in the Middle East, oud has only caught on in a big way in the UK in last few years. It is derived from the tropical agar tree, which is thought to originate in Assam in India. When the tree is infected by a mould known as Phialophora parasitica it reacts by producing a dense, dark and fragrant resin to protect itself. It is the resin-embedded heartwood of the tree that is the source of oud. Specifically, I’ve discovered it projects mildly from skin for the first 2 hours, before simmering closer for another 3. Therefore, expect about 5 hours of total longevity. First oud fragrance I ever tried. Sprayed it and thought "that smells familiar", couldn't place it though. Little while later I thought "Spicebomb." Definitely some similarities. Pleasant scent, sweet, not sure it told me what oud smells like yet. Will have to sample again.

This sweet, woody perfume introduces honey and Damask rose, giving way to spicy patchouli. The syrupy honey-dipped rose smells almost of champagne when on your skin. It’s a great starter Oud, as it’s very inoffensive. I see this fragrance as a cool weather choice. It is on the more elegant side of things, so I'm more inclined to wear this with a collar than with a pair of jeans. Safe for work, albeit a bit daring. I'd put this on the same shelf as my 'power colognes' but I wouldn't rank it near the top.
