Premium Chromebooks occupy their own space in the laptop market, bridging that gap between powerful traditional laptops and super lightweight Chromebooks. Well, the simplest answer here is: Performance. The Asus Chromebook Flip CM3 uses a MediaTek MT8183 ARM CPU running at 2GHz. While this processor has been optimized for Chrome OS, there’s only one way to characterize it. It’s slow. The CM3 makes use of a Mediatek processor, instead of the usual Intel or AMD offerings. ARM-based processors from Mediatek and Qualcomm are usually found in low-cost Chromebooks like this one, and typically perform about as well as other bottom-rung chips like the Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon. Most aren't unbearably slow, but there's a considerable power gap between them and midrange chips from AMD and Intel, and an even bigger gap between them and Apple silicon, which is also ARM-based. (Here's how to choose the best laptop processor.) Still, the CM3 is one of the best-performing ARM-powered Chromebooks we've tested, as you'll see below. The MediaTek processor might be slow, but it’s also efficient. The Asus Chromebook Flip CM3 equipped a 32 watt-hour battery, which isn’t particularly large even given the 12-inch low-resolution display.

The Asus Chromebook Flip CM3 is a budget Chrome OS 2-in-1 that exceeds the expectations established by its low price. It’s slower than I’d like, but it has great battery life and a solid, comfortable chassis. The keyboard could be larger and the touch screen a little more responsive, but the touchpad and active pen are excellent. I liked this display at least as well as the ones on the more expensive Asus Chromebook Flip C536 and Acer Chromebook Spin 713 There’s no better feeling than finding a diamond in the rough, and the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3 might just be that diamond for those looking for a cheap but capable laptop that can also function as a tablet. Impressive performance makes this Chromebook a joy to use, even if the touchpad, distractingly glossy display, and short battery life steal some of its thunder. Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Younger students using this for school assignments or reports might fare better than we did, though, and it is well-suited for a classroom. If you’re looking for a lightweight OS machine that touts more power than the rest of the clan, this is one of the best Chromebooks on offer. Thanks to that simplified Chrome OS interface as well as a generally much lower price tag, the best Chromebooks have become quite popular, taking the place of more traditional laptops in quite a few settings. Though they are usually cheaper, they’re not necessarily of worse quality. The top 2–in-1 Chromebooks can do most day-to-day computing tasks just as well as the best 2-in-1 laptops powered by Windows 10.But, that's really all a Chromebook is meant to do, and in our experience with it, we didn't encounter nearly as many performance slowdowns as we were expecting. We found it was perfectly capable of browsing, streaming, and getting some work done in the cloud without any real issue, so long as we didn't load up on Chrome tabs.
