The idea was conceived by Disney Consumer Products chairman Andy Mooney in the late 1990s, with the franchise launching in 2000. The only two Disney Princesses with biological siblings are Ariel and Merida, and, interestingly, their names all begin with the same letter ( Ariel's sisters' names all start with the letter A, and Merida's brothers' with the letter H). Crafted for young Disney Princess fans whilst staying true to the classic Disney Princess styling, this fun range aims to stimulate a child’s imagination during play.

Today, official Disney Princesses are found in many different forms of media and merchandise, from sing-a-long movies and TV specials, to dolls and bed sheets and costumes. They also feature prominently at most Disney theme parks. On the ground floor, the drawbridge opens to the Grand Castle Entrance. Next door is the beautiful Seashell Boutique with a working swing! There’s also a Cottage Kitchen, the perfect place for Snow White to cook, and a Stable for Angus the horse, complete with wooden manger. Originally, there were eight official Disney princesses included in the line-up: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan. Today, there are twelve princesses in total, eleven from Walt Disney Animation Studios, and one from Pixar. And more Disney princesses are expected to be added in the future, especially as Disney continues to buy up other media franchises. Who knows, maybe we’ll see Princess Leia or even a character like Gamora join the line-up in the future? 1. Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) 2. Cinderella (Cinderella) 3. Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) 4. Ariel (The Little Mermaid) 5. Belle (Beauty and the Beast) 6. Jasmine (Aladdin) 7. Pocahontas (Pocahontas) 8. Mulan (Mulan) 9. Tiana (The Princess and the Frog) 10. Rapunzel (Tangled) 11. Merida (Brave) 12. Moana (Moana) Princess RequirementsDo keep in mind that there are also many “unofficial” Disney Princesses. These are characters who might be actual princesses (or similarly titled) in films, but who are not included in the official Disney Princess line-up. Think Elsa and Anna from Frozen (more on them later). Under the sea, down where it’s better, down where it’s wetter, lives the red-headed mermaid Ariel! Ariel is fascinated by life on land and one of her visits to the surface, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her love, Ariel makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to become a human for three days. But plans go sideways and her father King Triton is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice! Pocahontas and Tiana are the only Disney Princesses with childhood best friends who are human (Nakoma and Charlotte, respectively). Princess Jasmine from Disney’s Aladdin is the future Sultana of Agrabah. Despite being forbidden from leaving the palace walls, Jasmine sneaks out. When she unintentionally steals an apple it is Aladdin who saves her from the shopkeeper’s wrath! Add to the mix a magical lamp, a genie, a villain called Jafar, and a magic carpet ride, and you have the infamous love story of Aladdin and Jasmine! The last three Disney Princesses (Merida, Moana and Raya) are the only Disney Princesses with no love interests.
