The killer is one slippery and smooth character, and Bertie Carvel perfectly voiced the internal thoughts of the killer, I love this actor anyway, but now listening to him it gave me chills. Too many!!! Fictionophile’s OCTOBER 2023 #BookHaul #Bookbloggers #ForthcomingTitles #TBR #AnticipatedReads October 31, 2023 I am new to the series and DCI Ryan and his team, but I read a review by Jen (read it here) and I knew my next credit from audible was going on this book! I am now a huge fan of DCI Ryan, and I am glad I had this book before I delved into the series. I learned of the man, some of his history and his fierce determination to get to the truth. He works so hard to solve the killings before another victim turns up, but will he be too late? Working with people lying to him, minimal clues, I came to the same discovery he did, especially when it came to the sad demise of one of the victims.

While she will always be a northerner at heart, she currently lives with her husband and their son in Bath on the outskirts of London where she spends her days writing her detective mysteries. Ross loved books from a very early age when she would find old books from her mother’s chest that she would staple and illustrate during her middle school years. Even as she has a varied taste in the types of novels that she reads, and will not mind reading the odd women’s fiction or a romance. Murder by Degrees” by Ritu Mukerji – Book Review @simonschuster @SimonSchusterCA #MurderByDegrees #BookReview November 1, 2023 ABOUT LJ ROSS LJ Ross is an international bestselling author, whose books have sold over 8 million copies worldwide. After the birth of her son, Ross wrote the first draft of Holy Island, having been inspired by the atmospheric beauty of Lindisfarne, an island off the northeast coast of England she knew well from childhood. [12] Following its success, she now writes full-time. The second book in her series of DCI Ryan novels, Sycamore Gap, is set in Hadrian's Wall country [13] [14] and subsequent DCI Ryan novels continue the Northumbrian locations, with stories set in Northumberland, County Durham and Newcastle.

Superbly written. Well thought out plot and in-depth knowledge of the location made this a must read book. Can't wait for the next one."This is one hell of an engaging story, once you start it you won't be able to stop it is utterly addictive. In 2021, Ross set up the Northern Photography Prize for images captured in the North East of England, [18] as well as reading and writing challenges and prizes for adults and children. [19] Novels [ edit ] DCI Ryan Mysteries Series [ edit ] I plan to eagerly follow the D.C.I. Ryan series. The first novel has proven to be a well-balanced blend of police procedural with great characterization and just enough romance to make you even more invested in the plight of the characters. In May 2021, Louise was shortlisted for the prestigious Crime Writers’ Association ‘Dagger in the Library’ award, which recognises an author’s entire body of work having been consistently enjoyed by library borrowers around the United Kingdom, and an author’s longstanding support of libraries. Louise was born in Northumberland, England. She studied undergraduate and postgraduate Law at King’s College, University of London and then abroad in Paris and Florence. She spent much of her working life in London, where she was a lawyer for a number of years until taking the decision to change career and pursue her dream to write. Now, she writes full time and lives with her husband and son in Northumberland. She enjoys reading all manner of books, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Her eleventh novel, The Infirmary, is a prequel story to the DCI Ryan series and is available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong. I keep getting distracted by talking about the production and not the story, I can only apologise! Because to be honest they go hand in hand, the storyline was epic, the killer on the loose was scary as hell, how was he getting to the victims, and when one is way way way too close to home, well things go a bit crazy. LJ Ross is an internationally bestselling author, whose books have sold over 7 million copies worldwide. Apart from the editing, which her husband proudly did, she did not have to pay anything, and was pleasantly surprised when the novel took off. She has been publishing as an Indie ever since. The DCI Ryan Mysteries are set in Northumberland, which is a region of England that the author is particularly familiar with, given that she grew up there. These are fast-paced mystery and murder novels peppered with a bit of romance and humor. To find out more about the many philanthropic ventures Louise has founded and sponsored through her publishing imprint, Dark Skies Publishing, please visit ‘Philanthropy’.I have before that this series would make a brilliant TV show and this audio is simply the best making you feel part of the investigation. I have always said that this series would make a brilliant TV show now I think that even more. Close your eyes for a second while watching your favourite programme and just listen to the words…..This is exactly what The Infirmary is like. watching a thriller without the TV, you will know what I mean when you listen to it. Despite the fact that Ryan is leery at first, he and Anna find themselves both feeling a strong attraction for each other. Then, when the murder investigation proceeds slowly, there is a second murder on Holy Island. Then a third… All seemingly to be ‘ritual’ murders. L.J. Ross (Louise) is an international bestselling author, best known for creating atmospheric mystery and thriller novels, including the DCI Ryan series of Northumbrian murder mysteries which have sold over four million copies worldwide. Given the strange markings on the girls body, in addition to where and how she was placed in the priory, his superior, Gregson, suggests that he needs an expert in ancient religions, symbolism, and ritual murder. He sends for Dr. Anna Taylor, a local girl who has been living off the island for some years.

I loved Hermione Norris narrating this, as the tempo and the threat of the book increased, so did her narration just like it would if you were reading the book by yourself. The panic knowing what was happening, it was there, the fear of what might happen, it was there. My god it was just epic (I have said that already!)

Detective Inspector Denise MacKenzie

Holy Island” was the winner of a poll I created to let my fellow bloggers and followers vote on which police procedural series I should begin next. Well I have to say that you all have excellent taste in reading! For the third time, you have chosen for me a 5* read! If you are a fan of the DCI Ryan series then this book really is an absolute must read. Even if you haven’t, this is a great book to start the series off with, with it actually being the prequel. Ross was born and grew up in Ponteland, Northumberland, England. [10] She completed undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in law at King's College London, where she met her husband, and continued her studies in Paris and Florence. After spending most of her twenties working in the City as a lawyer, she began to feel it was time for change. [11] Publishing career [ edit ] As of 2018, Ross lives with her husband and two children in Northumberland. [17] Philanthropy [ edit ] LJ Ross has done a great job giving an insight into, and greater understanding of, Ryan’s personality before the nightmare events that sent him to Holy Island, showing how those events influenced the person he became. He’s totally focussed on his job and is determined to catch the killer.
