This is especially present when you hit a large bump or rumble strip. The wheel feels like it skips a gear or two, making the car feel light. This isn’t accurate and when you’re not expecting it can catch you out. The Logitech G29 and the G920 are two racing wheels, which are both almost identical. The G29 is compatible with PlayStation consoles and PCs. And the G920 is the Xbox compatible racing wheel. Both look and function almost identically, with the exception of the PS4 having an extra dial on the front. The main body is constructed from metal, and the almost completely round handle is wrapped in real perforated leather. The rim is finished with a flash of metal at the top just like real racing wheels. You get the extra controls on the faceplate, plus a new feel to the brake pedal. There are probably tweaks to the internals, but these are the main differences we noted.
However, we will save the shifter for another review, as it isn’t a part of the standard product bundle. The manual shifter itself transforms the racing wheel into something much closer to a regular road car. But much like its racing wheel brother, it also has some flaws. The main one being how weak it is. There is little to no resistance in the shifting at all. You can literally shift with your little finger.Unlike many other sim racing wheels, the Logitech wheels are not customize-able in any way. Unless you start unbolting things, which you really aren’t supposed to! The wheel itself comes firmly bolted onto the wheelbase, and you aren’t meant to change this. Second on our list is the Next Level Racing Wheel Stand Lite. What we like about this wheel stand is the low price, quality brand, and great features. The value is incredible when you consider that this stand comes with features like a shifter mount and full adjustability. As you would expect, this stand us fully adjustable. Wheel height, pedal angle, shifter position, etc. It’s not as portable as the other options, but you get a lot more strength in return. The parts are cut from 3/4" plywood. I generally prefer to use Baltic birch plywood because its dense layers makes for an attractive edge, and its generally free of voids which is nice when you're cutting partial depth slots as I am here. It is slightly heavier than other less-dense plywood but I find the trade-off to be worth it. But our favorite feature is the ability to upgrade this simple wheel stand into a full blown sim racing rig. Next Level Racing offers a racing seat and monitor stand attachment that is compatible with this stand. That gives you a nice upgrade path in the future without the huge upfront cost and commitment to a full rig.
Unlike a few other starter pedal sets, Logitech is generous enough to include a third pedal. This is great to see, as Logitech also sell an add-on shifter. It positioned itself early on as the most consumer-friendly and budget-friendly racing wheel. And the reputation that Logitech had previously built with the G25 and G27 as a good quality, low-cost racing wheel manufacturer remained. There are a few changes I would make to this design if I were to make it again, and a few additions I may yet make to the wheel stand.Some Logitech G27 owners went as far as to emulate this brake feel by putting a sliced-in-half tennis ball under the pedal, so it’s good to see Logitech has taken this on-board. We found it to be 100 per cent plug and play. Hook up the 3-pedal board to the wheel, then the wheel to the PS4 and you’re away. It automatically recognises the wheel, which can then be used instantly with games like DriveClub and Project Cars. No extra set-up is needed. It’s a three-pedal setup: accelerator, brake and clutch. Each has a different tension style, mirroring what you get in a real car. The important improvement in the G29 is the brake. It’s progressive, with more tension at the end of its depression to give you much better control over the force of the brake and a more realistic. It’s a big improvement over the old wheels, and the pedal set included with the Thrustmaster T300 RS. These PS4 exclusive touches really finish the wheel off nicely and give it that racing vibe. These weren’t included on the Xbox version due to restrictions with the Xbox architecture. Meaning Xbox gamers such as myself, miss out.
As you grow as a racer, you will progress from the G29 through to belt-driven wheels and even direct drive wheels further down the line. This progression as a driver, and in terms of hardware will be ever rewarding when you make the next jump up. Shifter mount? Adjustable height? Adjustable pedal platform? Quality Our top sim racing wheel stand for the Logitech G29/G90 is the Next Level Racing Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0. This is about as premium as a wheel stand can get without being a full blown rig.First, the stand is not really noticeably lighter than the old one. I would cut some "speed holes" into the base-plate specifically to lighten it up. Also, I messed up when cutting the mounting holes for the pedal-box so the inside pair of bolts do not line up. The bolt pattern for this pedal-box is asymmetric, and I accidentally cut mine with the inside bolts offset towards the wrong side (they would be perfect if the pedal-box was turned 180 degrees, but of course that would make it difficult to drive). No big deal since the 4 outside bolts are more than enough to hold it. Wheels like the Logitech G29 Driving Force make driving games far more engaging, perhaps too much for those days when you just want to let you brain quietly vegetate after a stressful day of work. The Next Level Racing Wheel Stand Lite is made of power coated steel. It features an adjustable pedal plate that is connected to the vertical wheel stand column. You can adjust the height of the stand easily with a couple of adjustment knobs. You can even adjust the angle of the steering wheel, and distance of the pedals on the stand.
