About this deal

Males use the tusks to determine social status, dominance over other males, and compete for mating females. 6. Narwhals use their tusks to hunt for fish. Poppy: MMMMmmmmm... I think... Probably about four. ...Because my baby one is lost, and the other three is not lost. The Narwhal is a medium-sized, elusive whale, that inhabit the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans around Greenland, Canada, Norway and Russia. While she's counting I'll take a moment to add that I only review the CUTEST kids' books. (Or ones the kids beg me to review, which happens less and less.)*

We see him first grow up in the ocean, trying to be like a narwhal, and failing, but he is trying his best and I loved that the narwhal friends didn't mind him not being one of them. They cared about him. But then something happens and our little Kelp is swept away from his family and friends. When he meets a jellyfish, they both assume they are imagining one another as neither of them has come across such bizarre-looking animaL before. Nevertheless, they decide to become friends and embark on some awesome adventures together. K. Laidre (2010). “Narwhals document continued warming of southern Baffin Bay”, via Wiley Online Library.Drone footage of wild narwhals captured by Researchers from WWF-Canada shows them using their spiral tusk, to hunt fish. Poppy: I forget what these unicorn-thingys are... Narwhals? I think. Fish, fish, fish... Narwhal, narwhal, and there's seaweed, and then the water... Very rarely do narwhals have two tusks, or are tusks found on females. It’s estimated around 3% of female narwhals have a small tusk. The narwhal averages between 13 to 18 feet (4 to 5.5 meters) in length excluding the males spiral tusk, and weighs 1,760 to 3,530 pounds (800 to 1,600 kg ). This grows from the front right side of its upper jaw. 4. The tusk is an ‘ivory’ canine tooth, that spirals out of the upper left side of the jaw.

Hank (11): 4.3 stars. I thought I was there! I completely forgot where I was when I was reading it! Of course, we all know that Kelp isn't a narwhal, come on, it is that obvious, but that definitely didn't lessen the enjoyment of the book. As the main point of this book is that Kelp discovers this himself. He needs to discover who he is, and where he will live in the end. The art? Well, that was one of the two reasons (next to the cover) why I wanted to read this book, and it brought all I hoped and more. Kelp was drawn adorably (with that tiny little helmet), and I loved how everything else was drawn. Dad: Ummm... I can't write down what's in the book, because then people won't read the book, and they won't see the pictures. They can extend up to 10 feet (3 meters) long and weigh as much as 22 pounds (10 kg). 5. Their tusks primarily relate to mating, in a similar way to an antlers of a stag.Poppy: Yeeeesssssss... ...Because... Because Lilliana has an "anna" in it, and Lilly just has "Lilly." Wait, are we just talking about unicorns? I think we're just talking about unicorns. Poppy: Yeah. It makes me feel happy. As long as we're just talking about unicorns. Because they're my favorite amnimal in the whole entire world. The reason because I like them is because they have a horn, and the horn makes them so that THEY HAVE MAGIC!!!! So, it's just that... I just like them... They're my favorite thing, and we can still like them even if they're not real... Poppy: Yes. Because it had lots of unicorns in it. So, like... we can show you. But we have to write the review by opening up the book and showing you how many unicorns there is. *Moves computer mouse off the book while saying,* "So, we have to move that thing out of the way so we can open up the book."

The witty comic-strip illustrations are simple, yet full of character, and are rendered using a predominantly blue and yellow palette, with occasional splashes of colour. Narwhal eat flatfish and halibut during the restricted winter months, which can both be found on the bottom of the sea in the Baffin Bay and Davis Strait. During the summer months they can consume cod and halibut, and will also consume cuttlefish, shrimp and squid where possible. Due to the extreme cold of the arctic waters, they have significantly more blubber than an average whale, which usually has between 20-30% fat. 7 17. Narwhals are vulnerable to ice entrapment (‘Sassats’). I have been meaning to read this book for ages, and today was the day I finally got the chance to read it. Boy, this was just so much fun to read.Corpse Whale’ refers to how their skin colour resembles that of a drowned body The scientific name ‘Monodon monoceros’, is derived from Latin “one tooth, one horn”. 14. They are rarely ever seen by humans.

Kelp is a darling unicorn with his turquoise hair, bubblegum pink nose, and spotted rump. Whether he's wearing floaties in the sea, leaping like a frog on land, or splashing around beneath a rainbow, Kelp is the cutest not-quite-narwhal. His journey is visually gratifying as he ventures from the cozy, lavender confines of the shell he lives in beneath the sea to a sun-dappled forest. He treks through a moonlit night with twinkling stars, to a rainbow laden field where butterflies flit and flowers sprout in red and pink, yellow and purple.During winter months, male narwhals have been observed making some of the deepest dives ever recorded, with regular dives of at least 800 meters, between 10-25 times a day. These dives are virtually vertical, to maximise speed. The pressure at depths of over 800m can exceed 2200 PSI (150 atmospheres). 5 12. They have evolved to withstand incredible water pressure. All in all, definitely recommended to all. This is just too adorable, sweet, cute, and at times a bit sad.
