The novel strikes a superb balance between external plot and internal progress that is sure to appeal to fans of YA fiction and fantasy. I think this is a testament to how it's just such a fun, light read, which makes it quite difficult to want to put down and pause. Elsewhere, Cole and Heale allude to rumours of an affair with her erstwhile Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng by noting that sources close to the pair assert that they have never been anything other than “political bedfellows”. Ultimately, it’s clear she wasn’t up to the job - style over substance is played out time and time again. This book provides an insight into Liz Truss, her style as a political operator, and the evolution of her espoused beliefs.

Unlike most post-premiership books, I’m not sure this one will play a role in history looking more kindly on Truss, after her disastrous 50 days in office. However, one comes away from the book with a greater appreciation of Liz Truss as a politician than prior. Understandably everyone is buggin about this, but Dad is especially because he’s like “I wanna catch one of these bad boys, who, yes, are falling unpredictably but also I bet I can figure it out using the power of Math if I try. I loved the fantastical elements mixed into the real world, while delivering amazing character development for all of the main characters.

If you're looking for a summer read - "Out of the Blue" is a great choice, it's got a beautiful ocean setting, a cute romance (fake dating! What’s unusual about Truss is that the lesson she seemingly took from hers was to believe in herself even more, and listen to others even less. Particularly notable is the authors’ assertion, when discussing Truss’s pregnancy some weeks after the conclusion of the Field affair, that “Truss told friends that the baby was her husband’s, and Hugh O’Leary is named as the father on the birth certificate”. While there were certain scenes that were a littleee over the top, it is a romcom involving 16 year olds, so what else can be expected? So while it isn’t an authorised biography, you sense that Truss herself has been the source of a fair amount of the information in the book. The image of something dropping from the sky was transferred to sudden or surprising events in the late nineteenth century. We have to ask, is politics really so full of second-raters that someone who ultimately wasn't fit for the job was over-promoted, by her peers, to Prime Minister? I had high expectations because Jason june wrote Jay's gay agenda, a book I really love, but you have to consider that these two books are very different.
