It comes to life thanks to an intriguing and colourful cast of characters, fizzy dialogue and a strong dose of humour, particularly Cole’s wry view of life. I understand I can change my preference through my account settings or unsubscribe directly from any marketing communications at any time. If there’s a better dynamic duo than Elvis Cole and Joe Pike in all of crime fiction, I’m not aware of it.

Racing the Light ebook by Robert Crais - Rakuten Kobo Racing the Light ebook by Robert Crais - Rakuten Kobo

Crais’ affection for his characters, masterful pacing, and dry wit make this one of his better efforts…[Crais]keeps the traditional detective novel alive and well. When she hires Elvis to find her missing son, a controversial podcaster named Josh Shoe, she brings a bag filled with cash, bizarre tales of government conspiracies, and a squad of professional bodyguards. With all the humor and fast-moving suspense that Crais fans desire, Racing the Light reunites, Cole, Joe Pike, and Jon Stone.Finding Josh should be simple, but Elvis quickly learns he isn't alone in the hunt--a deadly team of mysterious strangers are determined to find Josh and his adult film star girlfriend first. Robert Crais' signature blend of crackling action and snappy dialogue is as fun to read today as it was way back in 1987. Author Daniel Sweren-Becker must have been well tuned in to the zeitgeist when he conceived Kill Show, his newly published ‘true crime’ novel, as it delves into growing critiques of the genre.

The exact nature of their relationship is unclear but something seems to have been going on between them. A whirlwind of action, fisticuffs, and stray bullets, along with Crais’ usual dose of heart and humor, make for a riveting and satisfying read. When she hires Elvis to find her missing son, a controversial podcaster named Josh Shoe, she brings a bag filled with cash, paranoid tales of government conspiracies, and a squad of mysterious bodyguards. He soon discovers there’s more to this case than a missing geek and his model friend and it’s got very little to do with UFOs. My only gripe is the POV switching, which seems to slow the book down and doesn't necessarily seem worth it (some of those voices are much less authentic than Cole's), but overall, a great book.Finding Josh should be simple, but Elvis quickly learns he isn't alone in the hunt—a deadly team of mysterious strangers are determined to find Josh and his adult film star girlfriend first. Her work is being shown at a local gallery but until her career takes off she hasn’t left her former life behind yet. Cole can’t help getting in deep but the beauty is Pike is the man you want to turn to in a tight corner. You will then finish with a mighty uphill climb to the Schoolhouse Devon Restaurant, high above the water. Elvis continues to be a great protagonist, with so much understated humor, compassion, and integrity.

Racing the Light: The New ELVIS COLE and JOE PIKE Thriller

For a different take on California there’s always Michael Connelly’s The Dark Hours or a slightly darker vision of LA in A Man Named Doll by Jonathan Ames. When Elvis is hired by an eccentric woman to find her son, the hunt turns out to be something more than he expected. His podcast partner and producer Ryan does let on that Josh has a friend, a porn star he did a podcast on. This is crime writing at its absolute level best, a smooth and scintillating seminal triumph of both form and function. When she hires Elvis to find her missing son, a controversial podcaster named Josh Shoe, she brings a bag filled with cash, bizarre tales of government.Crais gives his readers a lovely surprise when Lucy Chenier and her son Ben arrive for a visit, but we're left wondering if they'll be back to create the family that Elvis desperately wants and needs. All of our favorites are here- Joe Pike and Jon Stone are there to assist, and Lucy and Ben make an appearance.
