You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. it is full how grate ideas and ways of thinking and apart from the small out side margin (witch i wish was 5 mill bigger) is beautifully presented. A senior designer friend said, "Let me know when you want to read a heavier design book," which I will probably do at some point. It was difficult to distinguish whether the problem lay in design, or designing for THAT particular company.

When my boss at work (the VP of marketing) saw this book on my desk at work he said 'gosh, does being a designer really put your soul at risk? This revised edition contains all-new chapters covering professional skills; design thinking; and global trends, including social responsibility, ethics and the rise of digital culture.Personally I know nothing about graphic design so it was really risky for me to get this book, however, I checked online 'best graphic design books' just to add something to his graphic design books library so I thought I might as well give it a try and apparently he was one of the best things he's seen. There is a lot of practical advice about finding the clients, setting up a studio, working as a freelancer and overcoming your fear of failure and fear of ideas.

Also included are interviews with leading designers: Jonathan Barnbrook, Sara De Bondt, Stephen Doyle, Ben Drury, Paul Sahre, Dmitri Siegel, Sophie Thomas and Magnus Voll Mathiassen. Im actually going through this book with a fine tooth comb to try and pull out every bit of information I can.The book contains all-new imagery, and the previous interviews have been replaced with new ones, each focusing on a specific issue of importance to graphic designers. Excellent book for graphic designers interested in furthering their knowledge of the practical implications of a career in design.

Creo que si está dirigido o podría servirles más a diseñadores que acaban de graduarse y no saben que hacer, pero para ser un libro que fue publicado hace varios años (creo que 2004? I admit, I was a bit worried about the "without losing your soul" in the title of the book before starting, but Adrian Shaughnessy turned out not to be nearly as romantic as I expected; he even argues that self-initiated projects ("personal projects") usually are not a good way to promote oneself and get new clients – something that doesn't resonate well with the title, and something I don't agree with even though I don't believe in souls. I found it as valuable as a graphic designer with ten years of experience as I did when I was just finishing my design education. After 19 years as a Graphic Designer and Photographer for a management consultancy, I recently grabbed voluntary redundancy. If you are in the same situation, with a person who's just settling in in this industry don't hesitate getting this book! I should note that while this book is geared towards graphic designers, the advice in it applies to probably 90% of design disciplines. Some of the advices were also outdated, but you can still get the valuable learning from it and adapt it to modern technology or practice today. I read this book several years after completing my BFA in Graphic Design, I wish I would have read it my last year of school. Regarding design briefs, he offers some good suggestions: take up a role of scepticism and interrogation towards them, be wary of conventional wisdom, rely very much on common sense, and look for what is missing from the brief (which is often the key to unlocking really successful work).
