A stunningly illustrated anniversary edition of the final chapter of the beloved Farseer Trilogy, hailed by George R.R. Martin as ‘fantasy as it ought to be written’ and by Lin-Manuel Miranda as ‘an incredible series’. Even though, I've told you I thought Robin Hobb did an amazing job at creating this world, my huge issue with her is what she did to Fitz. It's almost as she enjoyed writing his misfortunes over and over again. This young man has suffered and lost so much! How much pain and suffering does the main character have to endure before he can be happy in the end? I guess the long answer to my question will be: But Fitz will not wait. Driven by loss and bitter memories, he undertakes a quest: to kill Regal. The journey casts him into deep waters, as he discovers wild currents of magic within him—currents that will either drown him or make him something more than he was. What makes Ubisoft Red Storm especially well-positioned to bring a mega-franchise like Assassin's Creed to virtual reality? In addition to writing, her interests include gardening, mushrooming, and beachcombing. She and her husband Fred have three grown children and one teenager, and three grand-children.

We also have partner studios within Ubisoft, who we couldn't have done this without. The German studios with their experience in VR escape rooms brought some great knowledge and tech. The Canadian teams brought key staff from Eagle Flight. The UK studios provided many critical roles and leadership. The studios from Ubisoft India and Belgrade were also key in many areas, ranging from the “Living World” of civilians, to complex moments such as authoring the crowd scenes and assassination scenarios. This team is what we call a one-team structure, because we distributed development and leadership across all studios. It really was a Ubisoft worldwide effort. This entire journey has been emotionally exhausting. And yet, despite it all – or maybe also because of it – I LOVED it. While it is true Hobb seems to relish seeing her characters suffer, she is a true genius at giving characters depth, at giving voice to their motivations and struggles, which is why it leaves me extremely emotionally involved. I love Fitz, I love Burrich and Verity and the Fool. (And I loathed Regal.) my reading resolution for this year is try to complete the many series i have started but havent finished. and i really hope this book isnt a sign of things to come.

Near the start of this week's VR Corner I say something about the fact that I've played PC VR games that look worse than Nexus VR running natively on Quest 3, and I wasn't joking. I've always judged the visuals in native Quest games rather harshly, but there's a quality here that I've never experienced before and it took my breath away. Everything from great lighting effects and highly detailed textures to the large amount of NPCs roaming around brought life and believabilty to the world. While it's still no Half-Life Alyx, visually this feels like the current gold standard of native, wire-free gaming. Until perhaps Asguard's Wrath 2 releases in a few weeks time. My favourite is still FitzChilvary, his life is just filled with sacrifice, misery and trauma. He was almost never happy, Nighteyes and The Fool tried but he is so depressesd, its a wonder he is not even suicidal, okay he is a bit, His family are the worst ever, it still surprises how he still moves on with his life, well he is stronger than a lot of people and he also has a big heart.

If there was ever a AAA gaming franchise begging for a VR installment, it was Assassin’s Creed. What’s really special about Nexus VR is that it isn’t just a tech demo with an Assassin’s Creed flavoring—it’s a full fledged Assassin’s Creed game in VR. One that makes excellent use of the franchise’s unique sci-fi elements and properly translates the best gameplay elements. With the release of the game set just a few weeks after the release of the Meta Quest 3, it would be logical to believe that this is one of the games that would be used to showcase the powerful new headset. While we don't have a Meta Quest 3 on hand to use with the game to see for ourselves, we still have the Meta Quest 2, which shows off the limitations of the device and how well Ubisoft and Red Storm pushed its limitations. The textures on objects, for example, are pretty muddy, and there are visible seams on some parts, but it is easy to tell what you can interact with and what you can use to climb up surfaces. If we take the example of using a bow, players have an expectation of what it should feel like to shoot one. Simulating these real-world experiences is one of the fundamental goals of VR, and also one of the most compelling aspects of the medium. That doesn’t mean Nexus is without letdowns, though they’re mostly small irritations and forgivable oversights (the sort that, hopefully, can be patched). For instance, reaching for your sword as Ezio or Kassandra never feels quite right—you have to grab it from the hip on your dominant hand’s side, where a cross draw from your opposing side will likely feel more natural. Connor’s tomahawk, due to how differently it’s used, doesn’t suffer from this sensation though. Currently, you can switch the dominant hand in the game’s settings, but not which side you draw from. It would be a poor courtesy to Hod’s skill to pass this on with a blunted blade. Take better care of it than I did, Fitz.” He resheathed it and handed it to me. His eyes met mine as I took it. “And better care of yourself than I did. I did love you, you know,” he said brusquely. “Despite all I’ve done to you, I loved you.” Robin Hobb is an amazing author. The characters she builds are so realistic. You become completely entranced and connected to all the characters in her books. She has superb storytelling skills that won't let you put the book down. I STRONGLY suggest reading The Farseer Trilogy

I also particularly enjoyed the glimpses of scenes we get with Burrich & Molly. I found the endgame of the two falling in love a bit... strange to say the least, but they definitely have some of the most compelling scenes that break up the intense monotony of Fitz's travels. You. He has refused to allow you to be put into the dragon. He could do it, you know, whether you willed it or not. He could simply reach out and pull you into him. But he refuses. He says you love your life too much, he will not take it from you. That you have already laid down too much of it for a king who has returned you only pain and hardship.” Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR is out now for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro, giving players the opportunity to embody a Master Assassin in virtual reality. A fully realized Assassin’s Creed game with open maps and free exploration, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR lets players take on the roles of Ezio Auditore, Kassandra, and Connor in all-new adventures featuring first-person stealth, parkour, combat, and Leaps of Faith through Renaissance Italy, Ancient Greece, and colonial America.

Unless Fitz can find Verity and help him in his quest, the Six Duchies will perish and there will be no safe place to live.
