Eventually, the signal from a Marker causes most of those around it to experience hallucinations and dementia, sending the living into a paranoid state which causes homicidal and suicidal actions. This paves the way for the next event by creating dead bodies, which will usually be stored near the artifact itself. Those considered to have a mind more compatible with the Marker signal, however, are instead given codes and blueprints for the creation of new Markers.
